It has been quite sometime since I have been able to post. So much has happened and I wanted to express my feelings on so many things happening in my life and in general. For instance I drafted a whole article on the Don Imus issue, but never got a chance to post…I guess it wasn’t meant to be. The Cleveland Cavaliers went to the NBA Finals…first time in club history…I took pictures on my Treo of different ways the city and people were supporting the Cavs…but pics were erased while backing up. There have been many other opportunities to post, but it just never happened…

I didn’t want to pass up the chance to tell about our American Dream. Depending on who you speak with, the dream can differ, but I’m sure if polled many people would say that part of the dream is home ownership. This June my family was able to take part in this dream…but it wasn’t easy.

The progress was a lengthy one, but my explanation won’t be. We looked for awhile and saw many houses. We believed we found one actually on the same street we lived on. We found a mortgage company, received pre-approval, put in a offer…waited….waited and found out that another offer was accepted. The interesting twist to this story is that I felt the seller’s agent was a little upset when didn’t want to sign a letter making her our exclusive agent. The agent said “we had to sign the letter to view the house” this after our agent made the appointment for us. So anyway, we didn’t get that house. There was a lot of finger pointing between parties to say the least. We were very disappointed, nevertheless we continued on…we had to, we didn’t re-sign our current lease.

We looked and looked and finally found another house. It was perfect for us now and for room to grow. My wife had her Florida room, I had my recreation basement with wet bar and my daughter had a floor to herself. We put in the offer, and things looked good. For whatever reason, things went haywire, our mortgage person didn’t do something right and it looked like we weren’t able to get the house, plus another offer came in, which the sellers were going to take. Our mortgage rep actually sent a note to the sellers agent stating we couldn’t get the house and urged them to take the other offer …WHAT!! Talk about wanting to go crazy. That was the final straw for us. I was tired of people talking for us so I went to the sellers myself. I was open and honest and told them I wasn’t sure if this was right, but we really want to buy their home. I explained that we were in the process of getting another mortgage company and was there anyway we could revisit this offer. They weren’t sure if they could, but they inquired and the response was positive…

It was a journey, but one well worth the effort. The former owners were great in helping us in this process. Such good people, I’m sure we will be keeping in touch with each other and we wish them well in their new stage of life. Prayers from our pastors was priceless. Our hard working agent was a blessing…she kept us going. And our “new” mortgage agent did what he does best…show us the money!

until then…
